First 30–60–90 day guide for Product Managers

Spend time observing, evaluating and acting in the first 90 days to succeed in the long run

Any new product manager at a new role would be eager to move the needle on their team/company’s goals and prove their worth. It may seem like the best thing to do is dive right into the backlog, assessing and building. I know I felt that way too but I also wanted to ensure I was setting the foundation for a long future of success. The key thing about those first 90 days is building trust with your team, understanding the customer & business needs and tackling the most appropriate win in your early days — building out your knowledge and relationships for success in the long run.

Three months ago I started a new role as a Product Manager in a new industry to me (e-commerce). Being nervous about succeeding at a role that is new to me, as well as having to start it remotely, I decided to journal my first 90 days, evaluate my experience and extract key pieces of learning to share.
